The
historic 4 square kilometre De Waterkant Village is the perfect accommodation
base for a visit to Cape Town City. Not only is it within walking distance of
the CBD and all that Cape Town City has to offer, but we also have the trendy
Cape Quarter within a few strides of our doorstep. This Piazza-style square boasts
a variety of establishments: restaurants, bars, health and beauty, a deli, a laundry,
a florist and even a bank machine.
Walking a little further a field will
take you to the world famous V&A Waterfront. Here you will find fun
for the whole family from the Oceanaruim and Craft Market, to boat rides to Robben
Island. Other cultural sites of interest within walking distance are the Bo Kaap,
Gold, District Six and Jewish museums.
You can take a stroll through the
city's leafy gardens and visit the National Gallery or Museum, play Frisbee
with some enthusiastic locals or watch the squirrels in the old Oak trees. Close
by is the renowned Green Market Square for craft and souvenirs, and more browsing
is to be done down Long Street a hub of energy, a hot night spot, and the travellers
Mecca.
Cape Town offers an array of Shopping Malls both in and around the
city. One of the largest malls is Century City with its attending African
Fun & Water Theme Park Ratanga Junction.
For fabulous Theatre
you will not have to venture far. Within the city are On Broadway, The
Royal Theatre and Artscape Theatres. Further outside the City is the Baxter, Theatre
on the Bay and some outdoor venues at delightful Stellenbosch Wine Estates
(see Spier and Oude Libertas). For summer evening concerts outdoor, a visit to
our nearby National Botanical Gardens Amphitheatre is a picnic-lovers must; though
please note that these shows only take place on Sundays.
Another must for
Cape Town will surely be your visit to our most famous landmark, Table Mountain.
We can set you up with a guide if you would like to hike up, or of you can take
the cableway and enjoy a less strenuous stroll on the top. For the adrenaline
junkies there is also the chance to abseil part of the way down.
The Table
Mountain chain is a national park and extends all the way down the peninsular
to the Cape Point Nature Reserve. You could get there via the magnificent Chapman's
Peak Drive and stop off at the Boulders Beach penguin colony and the Naval
base in Simon's Town en route.
At Cape Point, you will see untouched beaches,
and some of Africa's wildlife, including zebra, antelope, baboons and the closest
relative to the Elephant, the tiny dassie!
Cape Point also boasts
the world's most diverse floral kingdom, called Fynbos. The peninsular tour can
be arranged as a social adventure with meals and a mountain bike ride inside the
nature reserve. We are more than happy to put you in contact with the right people
for other day trips such as wine routes, bird watching excursions and even a variety
of Big Five day trips.
If what you are after is sand and sea, our peninsular
has many white, sandy beaches on offer. Our Mediterranean climate encourages long
sun-drenched evenings beside the crystal blue sea. Nearest are the trendy Camps
Bay and the secluded but popular Clifton 1st to 4th beaches. Slightly more
exclusive is Llandudno and then for the nudists and privacy seekers, Sandy Bay.
Across the peninsular is False Bay where you can bathe in the warmer Indian
Ocean at the family beaches of Fish Hoek or St James. Sign up for surf school
at Muizenberg, or head back to the Atlantic ocean to Table Views' Blouberg Strand
for more extreme water sports such as kite surfing.
Cape Town also
offers many Golf courses. The course at Woodbridge island affords spectacular
views of Table Mountain. There is also a fairway within 5 minutes of De Waterkant
Place Guest House. As with all that Cape Town has to offer, choice and warm smiles
are plentiful.
